Blue Ridge Sunset

Tzuri and I just got back from 10 days in North Carolina. The leaves, unfortunately, did not cooperate and had not changed colors as of yesterday, when we left.

I was able to see some stunning sunsets, however.

Pic du Jour #23: “The Bench”

They say an elderly man about my age sat down on this bench to rest and ponder his future. That was two summers ago and he hasn’t been seen since.

Like the writer Jim Harrison (who died last week) said: “All people disappear.”

Sleep-Over

No mere community park for Arcata, California – they can boast of an entire community Forest!redwood forest

And a redwood forest too, right next to Humboldt State University.

Is it not possible to see the forest, like they say, because of all the trees? ย You decide.

ย It’s a fun place to explore…

…and you never know who you’ll meet around the next corner.

In spite of some rather strict rules – no smoking, no alcohol, no camping, park closes at sunset – the homeless with their sleeping bags have laid claim to seemingly every other tree.

Tzuri said she wanted to try it, camp overnight. ย It was wet and foggy but I reluctantly agreed. ย And man did we have fun, woke up completely rejuvenated!

A New Beginning

Any photographer from Florida has a million sunset pictures.

Quality-wise, this image is nothing special. ย The difference, however, is that in this one the sun is not setting over the Gulf of Mexico. ย After five months on the road we have finally found the Pacific Ocean!

Pot of Gold

What, you don’t believe? ย You scoff?

Being still young, Tzuri was curious, and approached the possibility with an open mind.

Deciding to see for herself, she plunged into the water.

“No,” I told her, “not out in the middle of the lake. ย If anything’s there it’s supposed to be at ‘the end of the rainbow’.”

So she altered her course and began to search diligently. ย At least it’s good exercise, I thought to myself with jaded bemusement, all that thrashing around in the water.

Then suddenly she alerted and gave a little yelp: ย “I found it!” ย “I found it!”

rainbow

I’ll be damned! ย There it was, the proverbial pot of gold!

Actually, on closer inspection it turned out to be half a pumpkin full of doubloons. Probably a pirate ship down there somewhere.

Now what the hell am I going to do with a smelly water-logged pumpkin full of shiny trinkets? I’m already living the perfect life, why complicate it?
