The sun rises over its namesake, the Sunshine Skyway Bridge.
A B&W photo shows a freighter under the bridge on its way to Tampa.
On May 9, 1980, a similar freighter hit the bridge and 35 people plunged to their death from the top span, including a Greyhound Bus.

Urban Thursday
– a Thursday sampling of downtown buildings & city landscapes –
Either one alone is majestic, but seeing them together is amazing. Thank you!

My pleasure! And to think that I can get up that early when most of my life I was a night owl. 🙂

Do you see the two mountains (pyramids) in both photos that are actually part of the bridge? The illusion is magical especially in the morning photo where the sun appears to be between the bridge and the mountains.

Beautiful place you live in, but then you see it such exceptional ways.
I think I do remember the 1980 bridge collision and disaster, and that it was the first time I actually knew about that incredible bridge. What’s it like to drive it?

No big deal to drive it now but right after the bridge went down there were a lot of nervous motorists. 🙂
